TELL CONGRESS: DOGE cuts to the National Weather Service, National Institutes of Health, and other science-focused agencies are grave threats to health and safety in America. Cancer research, clean air, and the ability to accurately measure and respond to extreme weather events are all on the line. Sign the petition: Restore staff and funding for America’s science research and agencies dedicated to our health and safety!

Since Trump took office and the disastrous, cruel DOGE took power, 600 people have been forced out of their jobs at the National Weather Service (NWS).1 That’s 15% of the staff that had been tasked with analyzing and providing information about the nation’s weather — including life-threatening extreme weather.

These cuts make it harder to accurately predict, respond to, and keep people safe from natural disasters like the recent deadly floods in Texas. DOGE cuts to science and medicine are going to leave cancer research, climate change studies, and a whole slew of life-saving scholarship and innovation behind. Congress must save science in America.

Sign the petition: Reverse the cuts! Urge Congress to fully fund and staff the National Weather Service, National Institutes of Health and every bit of science-related government work that DOGE tore apart.

Science funding is the basis for American innovation in health, safety, medicine, technology, the environment, and so much more.

Future cancer cures, new medications, and all biomedical research are at risk because of Trump, Musk, and DOGE cuts.2 The NWS is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which has suffered even wider cuts, and over 1,000 layoffs.3

All of these cuts were laid out in the right-wing’s Project 2025, and they will only get worse if Congress doesn’t take immediate action to restore staff and funding.

Sign the petition: Fund and staff NOAA, NIH, science research, and more — protect health, safety, and innovation!

Thanks for taking action,

Joey and the Demand Progress team
