Last week, Donald Trump and Republicans passed their Big Ugly Bill, ripping health care away from 17 million Americans and triggering a $500 million Medicare cut. Hours after the bill passed, millions of Americans got a propaganda email from Trump’s Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano—who is so unqualified that he confessed to Googling the Social Security Administration when he was offered the job.¹

The message, sent through official Social Security Administration channels, carried the disclaimer that it was “produced and disseminated at U.S. taxpayer expense.” It was nakedly political, breaking Social Security’s tradition of nonpartisanship.

This official, misleading communication from the federal government is all meant to obscure the true impact of the Big Beautiful Betrayal: 17 million Americans lose their health care, food is stolen off the plates of the hungry, hospitals and nursing homes close across this country, all so that trillions in tax handouts can be given to billionaires, like Trump, Elon Musk, and Bisignano.

Donald Trump and DOGE created a massive customer service crisis at Social Security. Right now, mistakes are being made, checks are late, lines are hours long, offices have no workers, and the 1-800 number has record wait times—if people can get through at all.

All of this was caused by Donald Trump’s DOGE cuts, which were based on lies about non-existent waste and fraud.

Now, instead of addressing the very real crisis people are facing, SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano sent out a piece of political propaganda filled with lies.

Trump’s plan slashes taxes for billionaires. It moves Social Security’s trust fund exhaustion date forward by a full year, meaning every current and future Social Security beneficiary is paying the price. We are one year closer to the reckoning when we will have to either force the wealthy to pay their fair share, or cut benefits.

This Big Beautiful Betrayal shows that the Republicans are squarely on the side of benefit cuts.
