Governor Gordon Statement of Support for Potential Coal Leasing Updates to Buffalo Resource Management Plan

CHEYENNE, Wyo. –  Governor Gordon issued a statement of support following the Bureau of Land Management’s announcement of its intent to amend the Buffalo Resource Management Plan (RMP). This follows a 2024 announcement by the Biden Administration that it had selected the “No Leasing” alternative in its RMP amendment. The Governor’s statement follows:

“President Trump and Secretary Burgum have made good on their promises to take action to undo the damage the Biden Administration did to the Powder River Basin. Early on, I spoke with them both and explained Wyoming’s frustration that the very industries that built our schools and powered our economy were being ignored and directly harmed by an ideologically motivated, anti-fossil fuel agenda.

We know coal plays a critical role for Wyoming and in America’s efforts to achieve energy dominance. The restrictions in the previous Buffalo Coal RMP amendment were legally dubious, arbitrary, and would result in less reliable energy. I support every effort to right this ship.”
