On Independence Day, President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill into law — delivering many exciting wins to the American people.

Congressional Republicans worked tirelessly with the Trump Administration to make this tremendous victory possible. After weeks of debate and negotiations, the Senate amended the House-passed version and advanced the legislation on July 1st. My House Republican colleagues and I returned to Washington hours later to finish the job we started. On Thursday afternoon, the One Big Beautiful Bill passed the House with my support, meeting President Trump’s requested July 4th deadline.

After all, there was no better way to celebrate our great nation than President Trump signing this historic legislation into law — delivering a safer, stronger, and more prosperous America.

Here are several key highlights from Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill:

✅ Largest working and middle class tax cut in American history

✅ No tax on tips or overtime pay

✅ Tax relief for seniors on Social Security

✅ No National Firearms Act tax on suppressors or short-barreled firearms

✅ Rescinds most Green New Scam funding

✅ Boosts the Child Tax Credit for 40+ million families

✅ Invests in our border security to finish the border wall and deport illegal aliens

✅ Provides funding to hire 10,000 new ICE agents, 5,000 Customs officers, and 3,000 Border Patrol agents

✅ Funds the Golden Dome missile defense system to confront 21st-century threats

✅ Unleashes domestic oil, gas, and nuclear power — restoring energy independence

✅ Modernizes our military, including the largest Coast Guard upgrade since WWII

To be clear, achieving President Trump’s America First agenda through budget reconciliation wasn’t easy. But legislating is messy, and I’m confident that our final product delivers on our promises to the American people.

Throughout this entire months-long process, my House Freedom Caucus colleagues and I diligently worked to improve the One Big Beautiful Bill. After thoughtful deliberations with the White House and President Trump, we included more conservative and fiscally responsible wins in this legislation than many thought were possible. I’m incredibly proud of the work we accomplished, which I think Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent perfectly described, “These Freedom Caucus Congressmen have reset the center of gravity in terms of the spending. They're holding people's feet to the fire.”

Meet with President Trump to Discuss the One Big Beautiful Bill

I’m grateful to President Trump for working with my House Freedom Caucus colleagues and I to secure additional commitments related to our shared goals of slashing government spending, eliminating Green New Scam subsidies, and advancing conservative policies. We ironed these wins out until the very end, ensuring the most America First, fiscally responsible outcome possible.

For example, as an ardent defender of our Second Amendment liberties, I fought to use this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to restore our constitutional freedoms through budget reconciliation. While the One Big Beautiful Bill reduces National Firearms Act (NFA) taxes on suppressors and short-barreled firearms to $0, it falls short of eliminating the registration of the tax because the unelected Senate parliamentarian erroneously deemed the provision violated the Senate Byrd Rule.

That’s why I offered a commonsense amendment to repeal the NFA registration for suppressors and short-barreled firearms. Unfortunately, my pro-2A amendment was not made in order — meaning it never received a vote in the Rules Committee or on the House floor. Therefore, I initially made it known that I would vote against the rule (a procedural vote), hoping to have the opportunity to amend it to restore our Second Amendment freedoms and get additional deficit reduction. 

When it became clear that additional changes in the bill were not possible, I modified my vote on the rule to YES in order to advance historic tax cuts, spending cuts, border security, job creation, and massive deregulation, as well as the removal of the draconian NFA’s foundation by eliminating the unconstitutional taxation on suppressors and short-barreled firearms. In our negotiations, we also received a commitment from Republican Leadership that we would have a vote on a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution by the end of the Fiscal Year. As you may know, the House hasn’t passed this measure in over 30 years.

Therefore, I voted YES on both the rule and final passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill.

Rest assured, I will keep fighting through all avenues — pushing legislative solutions here in Congress, advocating for executive actions, and supporting challenges in court — until the 91-year-old Second Amendment infringement of NFA registration is gone for good. In fact, I had a productive conversation with President Trump on this matter, and I look forward to working with him and his Administration to further restore our Second Amendment rights.

Bottom line, we successfully fulfilled President Trump’s America First agenda and the promises we made to the country through our One Big Beautiful Bill. I look forward to highlighting more of the incredible wins in this historic law to you in the weeks ahead, as well as debunking Democrats’ lies about our efforts. 86% approve of the Supreme Court’s recent rulings.

Last week, historic flooding devastated central Texas, resulting in over 100 heartbreaking deaths. Dozens remain missing, with search and rescue crews continuing their courageous work amidst hazardous conditions. As you may know, many of the tragic deaths include young girls from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp located on the banks of the Guadalupe River. Our nation mourns the loss of these precious souls, as well as prays for miracles to rescue the children still missing.

I applaud our first responders for their swift action in response to this once-in-a-generation national disaster. I’m also thankful for local and state officials’ remarkable work, as well as the Trump Administration’s quick actions to assist the Lone Star State. As we await additional information, please join me in praying for the victims, their families, and the entire Texas Hill Country community during this unimaginably difficult time.

World War II Veteran and Blairsville resident Florence “Flo” Gerrard recently celebrated her 100th birthday! Flo served in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) as a nurse, caring for amputee patients at McCloskey General Hospital in Waco, Texas. As you may know, the WAC was established in 1942 to allow women to serve in non-combatant roles in the U.S. Army. More than 150,000 women, including 19-year-old Florence, served in the Women’s Army Corps during WWII. 

Beyond her selflessness during the war, Flo’s long and remarkable life has been filled with acts of service. For example, she’s been active in and supportive of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans’ Blairsville Chapter. Additionally, in 1981, Florence and her first late husband, Frank, started the North Georgia Honor Guard to ensure our nation’s fallen heroes receive proper military honors at their funerals. Flo and Frank also built the Holly Hill Cemetery on their land, generously providing plots and free burials to veterans.

Happy 100th birthday, Flo! The Ninth District — and the nation — are deeply thankful for your heroic service and servant’s heart.
