Dear John,

Please join us on Wednesday, July 23 at 3 PM ET for Gavel In: State Courts and the Fight for Fair Democracy.

This virtual conversation will feature Eric Holder, the 82nd U.S. Attorney General and current Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee; Sophia Lin Lakin Director of the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project; and Kadida Kenner, Chief Executive Officer of the New Pennsylvania Project. The discussion will be moderated by AFJ Action President Rachel Rossi.

Over the next half-decade, progressives need a coordinated movement to secure the future of our democracy through state courts and the census. Our panelists will explore how redistricting directly impacts competitive and non-competitive elections and political representation.

With state courts increasingly called upon to analyze state constitutional norms and resolve legal challenges surrounding hyper-partisan congressional district maps, their influence has never been more consequential. State courts have the potential to be the defining entity in protecting – or betraying – the ideals of our democracy.

Join us for a discussion on why state courts matter, how state courts can shape the future of fair representation, and what local advocates can do to raise awareness about the importance of state courts and the census.
