Last week, President Trump broke his promise to improve the lives of Americans by signing into law a deeply unpopular bill that will raise energy costs, threaten grid reliability and increase pollution that’s harming the health of people and the planet.   

You and the EDF Action community did everything possible to fight back against this dirty, harmful budget and while this effort did not go in our favor, this was some of the most impressive advocacy work our team and members like you have ever accomplished. Nearly 17,000 EDF Action members raised their voice, contacting elected officials over 70,000 times!

That’s why I want to take a moment to say thank you, John, for your efforts to protect the climate and public health.

New polling commissioned for EDF Action shows strong opposition to clean energy cuts once voters learn what is in President Trump's Tax Bill. That’s because it will damage their health and wallets by: 

  • Ending tax credits that reduce electricity bills and improve homes.
  • Jeopardizing hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs nationwide.
  • Repealing tax credits that help make cleaner vehicles more affordable and allow families to skip the gas pump.
  • Threatening the U.S. clean energy boom by eliminating support for solar, wind and other renewable energy sources.
  • Increasing pollution in communities by cutting grants and loans for programs that help fight against climate pollution.
  • Providing oil and gas companies with a 10-year reprieve from paying fees on wasteful methane pollution.
  • And so much more.  

To provide a healthier, safer future, we know what we need to do and what solutions we need to advance. But this bill moves us in the wrong direction and benefits very few while giving a free pass to the dirtiest forms of energy.

In short, this bill opens the door for more health-harming pollution while ignoring the damage it will do to people's lives.
