Dear John,
Like many of you, I’ve seen the devastation from the Texas floods. As the father of two young girls, I couldn’t stop imagining the grief those families must be going through—losing homes, loved ones, and the sense of safety. I’m grateful to our first responders, the state agencies, and members of our local communities who have worked tirelessly to save lives.
If you or a loved one needs support, you can find resources from TDEM, Williamson County, or Travis County. Here you can find a few helpful tips on how to talk to kids about the floods. For those of you whose home or business has had damage, you can report that here. I also want to encourage everyone to sign up for emergency alerts from Warn Central Texas.
I know these past few days have left us all feeling shaken and wanting to give back. Our neighbors need our help – from right here in Central Texas throughout the Hill Country. If you’re looking to lend a hand, I hope you’ll join me in supporting relief and recovery efforts:
Kerr County Flood Relief Fund
The Community Foundation - a 501(c)(3) public charity serving the Texas Hill Country - will direct funds to vetted organizations providing rescue, relief, and recovery efforts as well as flood assistance. The Fund will support the communities of Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point, and Comfort.
CTCF’s WilCo Flood Relief Fund
Donations received will provide direct financial assistance to those in need. Please join us in supporting Williamson County relief efforts today. Every contribution, no matter how small, offers a glimmer of hope amid this tragedy.
Planned Parenthood / Flo Code Menstrual Products
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Texas is partnering with Flo Code to raise funds to provide much needed menstrual products to flood victims across Central Texas.
I’ve donated to these organizations that will get support where it’s needed. If you’re able, I hope you will consider giving to these or a local organization of your choosing.
You can also find other ways to get involved by volunteering, donating supplies, and more using this guide from the Texas Tribune.
We must all come together to support our fellow Texans.
