GIVE IN TRIBUTE

My sister is my why. GIVE IN TRIBUTE

Hey John,

As a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, I’ve thrown more than a few curveballs in my day. But what a lot of folks don’t know is that life has thrown just as many—if not more—right back at me. When that happens, the first person I think of is my sister, Taylor.

Taylor has Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that can cause severe intellectual and developmental disabilities. Despite the challenges, she approaches every experience with unbridled optimism. I try to channel Taylor’s resilience every time I step up to the plate. She’s been one of my greatest teachers—something I think everyone who loves someone with autism can relate to.

That’s why I stand with the autism community. If you do too, John, now’s your time to show it. Join me in celebrating Autism Speaks’ Tribute Month by making a donation in honor of someone you love with autism. Every dollar will advance research, advocacy, and support to help everyone on the spectrum thrive!

"She was dealt this hand at birth, yet she goes through life loving and laughing. If she can have that attitude, what's my excuse?" GIVE IN TRIBUTE

Honor someone you love with autism.

Autism Speaks recently gave me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to merge my love for Taylor and passion for baseball through a partnership with Wilson Sporting Goods. Together, we designed a custom baseball glove for their Love the MomentⓇ collection. Imbued with colors from across the spectrum, it represents the autism community’s limitless potential.

When I wear this glove on the field, I want to remind people of that potential—and the unique challenges families navigating disabilities face in an effort to unlock it. Too many (about 25%, according to the 2025 Autism by the Numbers report) are struggling to make ends meet, and the consequences are especially dire for people like Taylor.

That’s why, this Tribute Month, I’m speaking out—for my sister, my family, and the whole autism community. If everyone who loves someone with autism pitches in today, we can make sure support is always within reach for autistic people and their families—whether it’s with expert support from the Autism Response Team, curated resources on AutismSpeaks.org, or encouragement from friends and fellow autism allies at an Empower Walk.

Celebrate someone you love with autism by making a gift in their honor to Autism Speaks now. Together, we can support families today while creating a better future for everyone on the spectrum tomorrow—and for generations to come.

Thanks for listening to me and Taylor’s story. I know you have one too, and the world deserves to hear it.

Until then,
