John, I’m gonna get real personal.

Being born a Black boy in Chicago to a biological mother who suffered from a substance abuse disorder, the odds of succeeding were never in my favor.

All throughout my upbringing, I heard that I’d “never amount to anything.” And for a long time, I believed it.

But that all changed when I started working in my community. I found a passion for organizing, and even when I was the only one who believed in myself, I fought anyway.

I defied all odds. I became a state senator, and passed bills to protect everyone from those unjustly incarcerated, to workers, to women, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

John, my fight against the odds isn’t ending here. I launched my campaign for Congress because I’m ready to fight like hell for every American who’s had the deck stacked against them by Trump’s MAGA agenda.

But something is different this time: This time, I can’t defy the odds on my own.
