I voted no on H.R. 1, also known as the Big Beautiful Bill — a harmful budget bill that will gut health care, slash food assistance, and add trillions to our national debt to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.
Let me be clear about what this bill does:
Cuts more than $1 trillion from health care, including the largest-ever reduction for Medicaid
Slashes $500 billion from Medicare, putting care for seniors at risk
Kicks 17 million people off their health insurance and drives up costs for millions more
Cuts food assistance (SNAP) by 20%, putting millions of children and families at risk of hunger
Guts clean energy programs, threatening over a million jobs
Adds $4 trillion to the national debt — just to give more tax breaks to the wealthiest 1%
This bill isn’t about fiscal responsibility. Instead, it will explode the federal budget deficit and will lead to more uninsured Americans and the closure of hospitals, especially in rural and underserved areas in Middle and Southwest Georgia.
We need to fight fraud, waste, and abuse – not use those words as political cover for billionaire tax giveaways and ballooning the country’s budget deficit.
