Apologies in advance for this obnoxiously long email.

Folks, I’m excited to tell you about my new legislative package, a series of democracy reform bills that I’m calling A Common Sense Vision for American Democracy.

We’ll hike further into the weeds in a moment, but first, could I ask you to pitch in $25 or more to help me champion good government in Washington? [[link removed]]

The fundamental promise of our democracy is to fulfill the will of the people.

In modern times, we have failed to meet that promise.

My constituents often ask me, “ Why won’t Congress get its act together and actually do something for the majority of Americans?

And frankly, they’re right. When upwards of 70% of voters support gun control, climate action, or healthcare, and it still doesn’t become law, the system is broken.

Some of my colleagues point the finger at gerrymandering, lobbying, or corruption. But the truth is, we’ve failed to change with the times. Our democracy doesn’t reflect our modern, diverse nation, and the resulting system works for the few at the expense of the many.

Here’s how it happened, and what I’m proposing to fix it:

I. Amendment to the US Constitution

The Senate was designed with an intentional “small-state bias.”

There's just one problem: our founders never anticipated that our biggest states would have 65 times the population of our smallest states.

Today, the imbalance puts Democrats – and popular Democratic policies – at a severe disadvantage in the Senate.

Here’s a quick example: The 21 smallest states, with a combined population of 39 million, get 42 votes in the Senate, while California’s 39 million people get just 2 votes .

I’ve proposed a constitutional amendment to create 12 at-large Senate seats elected by national popular vote. That way, we can protect the power of small states without ignoring the will of the majority of Americans.

II. Equal Voices Act

There’s a wider gulf than ever between Americans and their representatives. The House was capped at 435 seats wayyyy back in 1929. In that same time, the average number of people each member represents has more than tripled.

Today, there’s an average of one representative per 770,000 Americans, but district sizes vary wildly from over 900,000 (Delaware, Idaho) to barely 500,000 (Montana, Rhode Island, Wyoming) — granting some Americans far more influence in Congress than others.

My plan to change that is two-pronged: 1) limit the size of a Congressional District to 500,000 people, and 2) add approximately 230 additional House seats.

Expanding the House would also expand and rebalance the Electoral College, bringing outcomes more in line with the popular vote!

III. Restoring Judicial Separation of Powers Act

Whew, where do we even start with SCOTUS?

The six MAGA justices serve Donald Trump and his shadowy network of billionaires, in exchange for lavish “gifts” and political favors. Any pretense of loyalty to the Constitution is long gone.

They are exactly what our founders feared most.

That’s why I’ve devised several reforms in my bill, including:

* Creating a brand-new court to handle most cases involving the federal government
* Enlisting 13 justices to serve one-year terms, selected randomly from the federal bench
* Requiring a 70% supermajority of judges on any decision that invalidates an act of Congress

Make no mistake: Our current House leadership does NOT want you to know about this plan. They’re hoping to squash it before it gains momentum. The first step in repairing our broken democracy is to replace the MAGA majority with leaders who respect the laws of this country.

That may sound like a huge hurdle, but Democrats are overperforming in races across the country, even in the reddest enclaves. And Trump’s catastrophic budget certainly isn’t helping his sagging popularity. Our work is just getting started.

So please, friend, let’s meet this moment together. Will you pitch in $25 or more to drum up support for this plan so we can lay the groundwork for a more democratic system? [[link removed]]
