URGENT: The General Assembly has passed a bill allowing concealed carry at private NC schools. But we can still stop HB 193, if Governor Stein vetoes this dangerous bill.

House Bill 193¹ creates pathways for some teachers, school personnel, and volunteers to carry handguns on private school educational property.

Call Gov. Stein's office TODAY at 919-814-2000, ext. 5, and tell him to veto HB 193. You can use the script below, or adapt it to reflect you own voice: "Hello Governor Stein. My name is ____ and I live in __(your town)_. I am calling to urge you to veto House Bill 193. Please protect NC kids and teachers by keeping guns out of all North Carolina schools, including our private schools. Please veto this bill today."

If Gov. Stein does not act soon, HB 193 will be become law. We can't let that happen! We need to get calls in RIGHT NOW to Governor Stein, telling him to veto HB 193, before it's too late and this bill becomes law!

Why is HB 193 dangerous?
Right now, the only people allowed to carry guns on private school grounds are law enforcement officers. Law enforcement working in schools receive 868 hours² of basic training as officers PLUS annual in-service training PLUS additional training for working in schools. That is the amount needed to know how to respond appropriately in a crisis, and when force is justified.

HB 193 requires only 8 hours of training annually. If this bill becomes law, it will allow volunteers, teachers, and other school employees with written permission from school leaders and a concealed carry permit to carry a handgun on private school educational property. These are the people we want educating our children, NOT making split-second decisions about when to use a gun around a child.

We need Governor Stein to veto this bill NOW, before it's too late and this bill becomes law. Every call makes a difference - call Governor Stein now.
