The New York Times: “Civil Rights Law Protects Gay and Transgender Workers, Supreme Court Rules”

Earlier this month, I reached out to you about the Equality Act, and I’m following up because I have an update -- the Supreme Court ruled that employers cannot discriminate against LGBTQ workers on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

This is wonderful news for our fight for equal rights and it couldn’t have come at a better time during Pride Month!

Our fight isn’t over yet -- anti-discrimination protections in the workplace is just one component. In 27 states, LGBTQ Americans can still be refused health care or evicted from their homes just because of who they are.

I don’t see your name on our petition to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell asking him to take action on equality for all in the Senate. There’s still time -- will you add your name? We want to gather 10,000 signatures before June is over.

Just this month on the anniversary of Pulse nightclub shooting, the Trump Administration repealed critical health care protections for transgender Americans. It’s a cruel and dangerous decision -- especially during a global health pandemic.

Discrimination has no place in our country.

I want to deliver our petition to McConnell with more than 10,000 signatures by the end of this month. Please add your name to mine today.

Thank you and take care,

Mikie
