SIGN NOW: Trump is threatening to jail and deport the Democratic nominee for New York Mayor. Stand with Zohran Mamdani against these bigoted attacks >>
John, President Trump’s latest political attack isn't just his usual mudslinging – it cuts against what our democracy is supposed to be about.
He threatened to arrest and deport Zohran Mamdani – a U.S. citizen who is the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City and a sitting New York State Assemblymember – simply because he doesn’t agree with Mamdani’s policies. [1]
This is a leader who did what democracy demands: he made his case to the people and won their votes, inspiring 50,000 volunteers [2] and sparking record youth voter turnout. [3] Now, those votes must be respected – because New Yorkers deserve to elect a mayor of their own choosing.
But more people getting involved is the last thing Trump wants – because he knows his agenda of abductions without due process, slashing aid to families in need, and tax breaks for billionaires is deeply unpopular.
So instead of challenging Mamdani’s ideas at the ballot box, a MAGA House member is trying to convince the Department of Justice to unlawfully strip Mamdani of his citizenship [4] – and Trump just endorsed this vile plan.
Let’s call this what it is: a racist, Islamophobic, fascist attack on a public servant who dared to fight Trump’s hate with hope. You can debate about Mamdani’s policies – that's part of democracy – but politicians crossing the line into racist smears (and now, outright threats) is something we should all be able to condemn.
Sign the Petition: Tell President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and every politician peddling hate – Zohran Mamdani belongs here, and in our democracy, you have to debate your political opponents, NOT deport them.
First we saw Trump and his friends (as well as some Democrats) go after Mamdani’s faith, his skin color, and his birthplace. When those smears failed, they escalated to denaturalization and prosecution.
They think these attacks will silence Mamdani – and anyone else who speaks out against Trump’s cruel policies. But they’re wrong. Trump’s vile comments triggered a fierce backlash from New Yorkers and people nationwide – some who supported Mamdani’s campaign, and some who didn’t.
What brings us together in condemning this is stronger than any single campaign. It’s a common understanding that in a healthy democracy, you win support by appealing to the people – NOT imposing your will through fear and intimidation.
Trump and his allies know that an engaged, empowered electorate threatens their weak grip on power. They want people to feel they have no stake in our future, to feel hopeless.
This is a test to see what kind of country we are. Do we settle our differences with elections – or with deportations and political prosecutions?
Sign now to tell Trump, Bondi, and the other bigots behind these attacks: you cannot silence hope with fear. Drop the attacks against Zohran Mamdani.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
