Trump has named top donor Louis DeJoy to head the U.S. Postal Service. DeJoy, who’s been handling fundraising for this year’s Republican National Convention, “will be the first postmaster general in two decades who did not rise through the agency’s ranks,” according to The Washington Post. 
 
USPS’s 600,000+ employees bring crucial correspondence, life saving medicine, and vote-by-mail ballots to millions of Americans regardless of their geography or their income. The agency has existed since 1775 under Postmaster General Ben Franklin.
 
But USPS doesn’t receive direct taxpayer assistance -- and under Republican rule, it will be bankrupt by September. Trump says it’s the USPS’ fault for not charging enough for packages. 
 
House Democrats have warned against the USPS being gutted or privatized for profit. Now that this public service which helps millions vote and is a lifeline for so many Americans is run by a major Trump ally, it seems that’s where things are headed. That’s why we need to know now:
