Over the past few months, we’ve witnessed an alarming breakdown of our election system — some due to the understandable difficulties of the pandemic and far too much due to intentional voter suppression. From Georgia to Wisconsin to South Carolina, people have faced endless lines, faulty equipment, and the very real possibility that their vote will not be counted.

And if disenfranchising Americans weren’t bad enough, many states and localities are also putting them in harm’s way, asking them to show up at polling places during a pandemic, where they are at increased risk of contracting COVID-19.

Every American has the right to have their voice heard, and no one should have to make the choice between voting and protecting their health. That’s why we must establish a nationwide vote-by-mail program right now, just as we have in California.

Please sign our petition calling on Congress to create a vote-by-mail program in all 50 states before the November election. We must ensure all Americans can vote safely.

The widespread voting problems in Georgia earlier this month were horrifying; especially considering that so many of the issues took place in areas that are predominantly Black. If we go into November's election with the same broken voting systems, it will be a national crisis.

We need to provide safe and secure voting by mail. But just because states offer voting by mail doesn’t guarantee they’ll do it right. We’ve also seen problems with people not receiving their ballot and some ballots getting lost. That’s why we need to make this a national program that ensures all Americans have equal access to voting.

President Trump and the GOP have made it perfectly clear that they’re against voting by mail, and against securing this election, because it will increase turnout and could cause Republicans to lose. We can’t allow them to disenfranchise Americans in an immoral attempt to hold onto power.
