Good morning! I hope you've had a nice long weekend!

We had a lovely Independence Day here with burgers and fireworks. We had no idea we'd be able to see the local fireworks from just outside our door, but we took out a couple of chairs to ooh and ahh over a lovely show. Every little thing feels so much better with my own increasing independence.

It looks as though we're going to be hit by Tropical Storm Chantal today and tomorrow. When I first got up, it was bright and sunny, but a couple hours later, it has dipped in temperature (thank goodness) and the sky is darkening. There's a stronger breeze than usual which will most likely ramp up as the day goes on.

We have the portable chargers and small generator charged up and ready to go if needed, and luckily, there's nowhere we have to be until Tuesday. I think it's going to be a curl up and read day, and perhaps we'll watch some movies if the power holds out. I have chicken in the crockpot and dumplings ready to be dropped in after a few hours. Just the cozy kind of meal we need today! I do love a good storm but sincerely hope that this isn't a deadly, damaging one. The state of North Carolina has been through so much.

Speaking of horrible natural disasters, my heart is absolutely broken for the families in Texas affected by the deadly flash flood. I still hold out hope that some of those little girls who were swept away will be found and saved. I cannot even fathom the shock of being awakened in the middle of the night by a wall of water hitting my bed.

If you need to catch up on your fiction reading, 1stMarineJarHead posted another chapter of Jessica's story yesterday. You can find it here.

I had a really fun talk on The Rising Republic podcast this past week, speaking with L. Douglas Hogan and Ryan Buford. My part starts at about 34 minutes in but I really think you'll enjoy the entire show. What awesome hosts! We discussed (speaking of fiction) my book, The Widow in the Woods, and my motivation behind Grace Sherwood as a character.

Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm paranoid, maybe it's this video that has me concerned, but I feel like we in America are waiting for the other shoe to drop. Please be careful and situationally aware.

Bad vibes aside, I hope that you have a wonderful rest of your weekend and a great week ahead.

Stay safe.

Be happy.

Love,

Daisy
