John,
At a recent House Appropriations Committee markup, I introduced what should have been a simple amendment: That Congress, and not the president, decides how taxpayer money is spent.
It should have been a unanimous decision to adopt the amendment. After all, Congress’ power as stated in the Constitution is just that – Congress decides where the money goes, not the president.
But as you can imagine, I got an extreme level of pushback from my Republican colleagues who killed the amendment. An amendment reiterating our duty to be a coequal branch of government.
The Hill Opinion: Congress can't just hand over the checkbook to the executive branch

It’s why I’m sounding the alarm and published my thoughts in a recent opinion piece in The Hill. And it’s why reclaiming the House majority is absolutely critical to serve as a check on the Trump Administration.
If you’re with me, please consider chipping in $3 to help me hold the line.
Thank you,
Mike
