Hi friend,

I hope you had a good July 4th with your friends and family. After an intense week in Washington, it was great to spend time with my family and enjoy the Independence Day festivities.

There are a few things I want to highlight in this week’s Patriot Weekly, including how you and your family can connect with my team to navigate government services in the wake of unprecedented attacks on critical programs like Medicaid. I also wanted to give you an update on the Poughkeepsie Social Security office and the win we delivered as a community together.

But the number one thing on my mind is giving you an update on the budget bill that the House passed this week. I will talk more about it later on in this email, but I cannot overstate the direct harm this will cause families in the Hudson Valley and across the country. I voted NO, but the fight doesn’t end just because the bill has passed. We have a lot of work to do, together, and I will be counting on you to help hold every one of these elected officials accountable.

What's going on

Hudson Valley

[link removed] [[link removed]] What I’m doing: Every person in the Hudson Valley, no matter where they live, deserves access to high quality services in their own home town. Amid unprecedented threats to health care, including Medicaid, we’re marshaling every tool at our disposal to help folks with our C.A.R.E.S Van, which visits communities across NY-18 to ensure folks have the opportunity to talk directly with my staff about the services they need. What you can do: We released our July schedule this week and we’d love your help spreading the word! Please share this schedule on your social media to help us get the word out into the community where we will be and when, and please share with your friends too. If you, or anyone you know, needs help with government services of a federal agency like the VA or IRS, stop by and see us on a C.A.R.E.S. van stop. [link removed] [[link removed]] What I’m doing: Earlier this year, I told you about the Poughkeepsie Social Security office closing. At the time, they announced they were closing for renovations, but DOGE listed it as a target for permanent closure. Our community immediately rallied and demanded that the office reopen to continue serving seniors in our area. The permanent closure, combined with DOGE’s gutting of over-the-phone services, would have meant seniors needing to travel further in order to obtain the benefits they earned. Thanks to intense pressure from all of us, the office was taken off the DOGE list. This week, it fully reopened to the public. A HUGE win for the Hudson Valley!!
What you can do: There is a lot going on in Washington, and the bad news often outweighs the good these days. This week, I just wanted to celebrate this win and highlight what can happen when people come together to stand up for a community. Thank you.Washington

What I’m doing: This week, I voted strongly against Trump’s disastrous budget bill, which is a betrayal of my constituents and the American people. The bill is fundamentally unfair and un-American; and I am furious that it is now law. This ‘Big Ugly Betrayal’ is a triple–whammy: it makes devastating cuts to health care and food programs while driving up costs for everyone; gives massive tax breaks to big corporations and the ultra-rich instead of the middle class; and irresponsibly adds over $4 trillion to the national debt. Families will lose health care. Hospitals will close. Kids will go hungry. Energy prices will go up. All so the wealthiest 0.1% can get even richer. I was a resounding NO vote on the bill, and I will continue to use my voice to highlight the harm it will bring to the American people. What you can do: Communities across the country will see IMMEDIATE impact from this bill. There are already reports of clinics in rural communities shutting down, and it won’t stop there. Two things come to mind of how we can fight back: 1. We need to be LOUD in amplifying stories around these cuts and the real impact it has. Trump and Republicans own every disastrous consequence of this legislation and we need to make sure people know that. 2. The best way to hold these people accountable is to vote them out of office. The election is over a year away, but the work starts now. Find the candidate in your district (or step up to run yourself) – help them organize and build the campaign they need to win.

Going on offense

[link removed] [[link removed]] I have continued beating the drum on how disastrous this budget is for families and communities across the country. It is an utter BETRAYAL of the American people. Now, it’s our job to hold Republicans accountable. I will continue to use every platform at my disposal to do just that.

Keep the faith, keep up the fight, and thank you for reading!

In Solidarity,

Pat
