More than 2 million LGBT adults in the US rely on SNAP benefits |
On July 3, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a sweeping tax and spending bill, which includes steep cuts the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Our new report finds that 15% of LGBT adults—nearly 2.1 million people, including 250,000 transgender individuals—received SNAP benefits in the past year, compared to 11% of non-LGBT adults.
Almost seven in 10 (69%) LGBT adults who received SNAP benefits had household incomes under $35,000, two-thirds (66%) were living with a disability, and nearly half (49%) had a child under 18 living in their household.

Twelve Soldiers features Brad Sears |

Twelve Soldiers is a year-long series of articles and photographs that profile 12 LGBTQ leaders committed to driving change within the community. The article explores Brad's history, his journey to launch the Williams Institute alongside Chuck Williams and Stu Walter, and the ongoing impact of research on the lives and well-being of LGBTQ people.

No matter how dark things are, our community continues to put in the work. I truly believe that if we continue to be out and proud and live our lives openly, we will continue to make progress and create a better, safer world for all of us.
