Dear John,
As the United Kingdom emerges from the
coronavirus lockdown, we have an opportunity to champion a society
where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive.
I want the
Liberal Democrats to be at the forefront of this, and that's why I am
standing to become the Party’s leader. I want the party to move
forward together, to win again so that we can build back better for
our communities.
These unusual times demand brave leaders and
bold ideas and this is why my plan has a radical approach to
education, economic fairness and the environment at its heart.
I'm advocating a roll-out of Universal Basic Income (UBI) and
the kick-start of a national skills retraining programme, to ensure
no-one is left behind.
On the environment, let’s make our
economy not just carbon neutral, but carbon negative. Let's keep jobs
and protect the environment through green bailouts - and recognise
that to build resilience; we need to talk about habitat as well as
carbon.
For too long, the Lib Dems have become more defined by
what we’re against, rather than what we’re for. I am determined we
adopt a more positive plan to reboot our party and our country.
The leadership election rules are simple – one member, one
vote. You have until midnight 9th July to register and help shape our
party’s future. The Liberal Democrats are at a critical juncture.
Please, be part of this change and help ensure we move forward
together.
