Fellow Democrat,

As we gather with family, friends and neighbors to celebrate the Fourth of July, I want to take a moment to reflect on what this day truly means, and why it matters now more than ever.

On July 4, 1776, pen was put to paper and independence from tyranny was declared. The Founders knew the risks. They faced overwhelming odds. But they believed in something bigger than themselves: a future where government was chosen by the people, not imposed upon them.

That spirit, a spirit of resistance, courage and the demand for representation, is the soul of American democracy. It’s also what defines us as Democrats.

Today, we face a different kind of test. Our rights are under attack, our elections are under threat and too many Americans are being left behind. The values that sparked the American Revolution, freedom, justice and equality, are not just historical ideals. They are promises we must keep fighting for.

So this July 4th holiday, let’s honor our past by stepping up in the present. Let’s organize, speak out and show up.

This isn’t just a celebration. It’s a call to carry forward the work that began in 1776.

Wishing you a safe and meaningful Independence Day.

Sincerely,

Steve Kerrigan
