#Fight4HER's Repro Rundown
Hello friend,
This Fourth of July falls just over three years since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade . Millions of Americans have lost a fundamental freedom that is essential to their self-determination: the right to reproductive autonomy. This right is not separate from the founding ideals of liberty and self-governance — it is central to them.
In a shameful final vote of 218-214, the House of Representatives passed Donald Trump’s 'Big, Bad, Bill' yesterday. It is a calculated attack on reproductive health care — and a blatant abortion ban — that will dismantle essential services for millions of Americans, especially the most vulnerable. The bill slashes funding for Medicaid, eliminates federal funding for Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health care providers, and risks the closure of 200 health centers nationwide. These actions jeopardize abortion access, cancer screenings, and STI testing, and will likely leave many people in rural and low-income communities without care.
This is not just budget legislation — it is an assault on reproductive autonomy and the human right to health care.
Last week’s Supreme Court decision in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic was yet another devastating blow to reproductive autonomy. The 6-3 ruling prevents Medicaid patients in South Carolina from suing the state as enforcement to see their provider of choice, stripping Medicaid patients of the freedom to choose where to receive their health care.
This ruling sets a precedent for other states across the country and could force the closure of health care facilities and eliminate access to contraceptive care, cancer screenings, STI treatment, and so many other services for millions of Americans.
As we mark the 249th anniversary of American independence, the Trump administration is engaging in and escalating systematic attacks on reproductive health. For Americans to work toward true independence — for all people, not just a chosen few — we must ensure that every person has the freedom to control their own life, including the fundamental right to make decisions about their own reproductive health.
