Dear friends,
For many of us, the Fourth of July feels somber, rather than celebratory. Our nation is still reeling from recent bouts of gun violence — the assassination of two Minnesota lawmakers, a mass shooting on June 22 in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood, the Memorial Day mass shooting in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, and community violence that tears our families apart.

We cannot give in to despair. It’s time to reimagine what true freedom looks like for every child, every family, and every community in Pennsylvania.
Freedom means thriving without fear.
Regardless of where we live, we all want our children to attend school without fear. Imagine a world where lockdown drills are a relic of the past. We all want to walk in our neighborhoods without the threat of gun violence. Imagine summer gatherings on weekends in local parks where everyone feels safe.
Patriotism means protecting one another from gun violence.
As we celebrate our country, there are countless different ways we show our pride. We vote, we take care of our communities, cheer each other’s kids on in Little League, and we protect each other. Imagine a world where we remember everyone is someone’s sister, mother, son, nephew, or grandmother. Imagine a world where we all agree that protecting each other from gun violence is our patriotic duty.
Freedom is earned through collective action.
Too often, we hear messages about what divides rather than what unites us as Americans. Most Pennsylvanians across the political spectrum agree on basic policies that allow us to live free from gun violence. From keeping unregulated Glock switches and other machine-gun conversion devices off the streets to passing secure storage laws, we know that when we come together, we are stronger than the rhetoric of fear. When we work together and act together, we have the power to not only imagine but create a society free from gun violence.
You can help build freedom in the present and for future generations.
