ABOUT COVID-19 is forcing America to confront twin health threats – the new threat of the virus and longstanding health disparities the pandemic has exposed. Tobacco use plays a role in both. Health experts warn smoking – and likely vaping as well – can worsen the impact of the virus, while the tobacco industry’s targeting of African Americans with menthol cigarettes adds to disparities. This panel will focus on urgent policy priorities at the federal, state and local level to reduce tobacco use and related disparities during the pandemic. Experts will also address the latest research on smoking, vaping and COVID-19, and what individuals and stakeholders can do to confront this health crisis. |
