Happy Independence Day

Dear Friend,

Happy Independence Day!

Today is a special day for us to celebrate our nation's values
of freedom, unity and the pursuit of happiness. It is also an
opportunity to recognize the resilient spirit of those living with
Alzheimer's disease or another dementia, along with their caregivers.

At the Alzheimer's Association, we fight for freedom from this
devastating disease that steals so much - memories,
independence, control, time and, ultimately, life - from our
loved ones.

It's because of our generous supporters that we stand at the
forefront in the fight against Alzheimer's - by fueling
research, encouraging early detection and diagnosis, and providing
care and support to those affected by the disease. Through our united
determination,we are driving positive change for people living with
Alzheimer's and their caregivers.

While this day is a time to celebrate, holidays can also be
challenging for those who've experienced loss and for families who are
caring for someone living with Alzheimer's. The Association is always
here to help. Below are just a few of our tips on how to best adapt
holiday traditions and plans for a loved one living with Alzheimer's:

* Communicate realistic expectations about what you can and cannot
do. If you are a caregiver, let family and friends know about
any changes they may see in your loved one.
* Maintain the person's normal routine as much as possible, so
that holiday preparations do not become disruptive or confusing.
* Focus on the things that bring happiness and let go of
activities that seem overwhelming, stressful or too risky.
* Experiment with new traditions that might be less stressful or
a better fit for your current needs.

We are able to provide ongoing care and support and advance
promising research because of our supporters. We are so grateful for
our generous supporters, who help us further our mission to lead the
way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia - by accelerating
global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and
maximizing quality care and support. I wish you a safe and happy July
Fourth holiday.

Sincerely,
Katie Evans
