Friend,
Today, on July 4th, we celebrate the ideals of equality and freedom.
But for too many people in this country, that still isn’t real: Workers are underpaid, educators are overworked, and our fundamental rights are under attack. All the while, too many politicians are more concerned with their donors than with the people they swore to serve.
That’s not the kind of country I believe in. To me, freedom looks like being able to organize your union and bargain for fair pay and better working conditions. It looks like students and teachers getting what they need in the classroom regardless of what school they attend. It looks like every Pennsylvanian being able to make decisions about their own body without interference, live as their authentic selves without fear, and love who they love without discrimination. And so much more!
Freedom is a promise we make — and keep — for each other, every day.
I hope you enjoy today’s festivities — and that you join me in pushing for our nation to fully live up to the ideals we laid out 249 years ago.
