Friend,
Today marks 249 years since America declared independence and the beginning of a new wave of democracy with the core values of freedom, justice, and liberty.
Since the birth of our nation, we have made great strides in terms of democratic progress, but we have also had significant setbacks that we still grapple with today.
As we reflect on our nation’s history today, it’s important to acknowledge the rights we expanded and use this as a reminder that our work is not done. Although we have made significant progress in Michigan, Michiganders across the state are concerned about health care access, rising costs, housing affordability, and so much more.
We must continue to work together and fight for equality for everyone, especially right now when so many are facing challenges.
Today, we need to commit to voting, organizing, marching, and fighting until everyone feels the independence, justice, and liberty this nation was promised.
Thank you,
Curtis Hertel
