Hi there,
On this Independence Day, as we celebrate the foundation on which America was built, and the Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence, we can’t help but consider a few things…
Here’s the iconic painting, which depicts the moment on June 28, 1776, when the first draft of the Declaration of Independence was presented to the Second Continental Congress. As you can see, only white men were present that day…
We’ve come to expect historic images of landmark moments to depict mostly white men. We understand that was just the way things were back then… women couldn’t vote until 1920, and they couldn’t open their own credit cards until 1974; it just makes sense that they weren’t involved in the signing of the Declaration of Independence. But it’s ok because that was THEN, and now, in 2025, everything is different!
…Right??
Well, despite some incredible progress, we’re here with a gentle reminder that we cannot take any amount of freedom for granted.
The next two images depict a much more recent – and much less hopeful – moment in American history: yesterday’s passage of President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), center, accompanied by Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), left, and Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID) – all white men – moments after the Senate voted to pass Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill.
House Speaker Mike Johnson speaks to the press, surrounded by Republican lawmakers – mostly white men – to tout the bill’s tax breaks and program cuts for millions of Americans.
Over the past few decades, women have become more represented at almost every level of government, and our laws have reflected that increase in representation. For example, when Nevada became the first state to achieve gender parity in their state legislature in 2019, we saw 29 (!!!!) new pieces of legislation expanding women’s rights and safety within the first three legislative cycles alone!
This is the kind of progress we are making possible. You can make more progress possible for women across the country -- especially in states with abortion bans -- by donating $20.25 or more today.

But in recent years, we have started to see a disturbing trend:
In 2024, the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) released a report stating that the number of women running for Congress in 2024 was significantly lower than in previous election cycles.
Since 2022, the number of women candidates running for federal office is down by 25%. Executive offices at the state level: down by 73%. The number of women running for State legislature is down by 55.4% – and the numbers are even worse when you break it down by race…
This is a horrible time for women to lose representation in government, as dangerous laws about women’s bodies, well-being, and access to healthcare are being crafted by rooms full of men. We desperately need more women in those rooms.
That’s why Her Bold Move is providing pro-choice, pro-WOMEN women candidates with the wide range of support they need to run for office and WIN their elections.
We are working to ensure that women’s hard-fought progress doesn’t slip away. In honor of Independence Day, join us to elect as many pro-choice, pro-women women as possible throughout the Trump administration by donating $20.25 or more today. [link removed]

Her Bold Move
Her Bold Move is the fastest-growing support network for women running for political office in America. As dangerous laws about women get passed in states with the lowest numbers of women in government (11%, 12%....), we're BREAKING the male supermajorities across those states.
Because men shouldn't be making laws about women's bodies.
