Friends,
This Independence Day, I’m reflecting on what it truly means to live in a free and fair democracy — and the responsibility we all share to protect it.
From the right to vote to the rule of law, the foundational promises of our nation are being tested.
It’s easy to get dragged down by the 24-hour news cycle and the many real challenges we’re facing. But as my mom Kathy taught me long ago: If you want to “be” right, be a pessimist. If you want to “do” right, be an optimist — and I remain so.
I still believe deeply in the American spirit. I believe in the power of the people to come together despite our differences, to reject the disease of bystanderism and speak out against tyranny and injustice, and to put in the work to shape a better future for generations to come.
I hope you’re able to spend this holiday with loved ones and take time to celebrate the values that have always defined our country at its best.
Wishing you a happy Fourth of July.
