What's inside the most reckless budget bill in modern American history

$4,500,000,000,000 in tax cuts, mostly for the wealthy. A $200-per-child increase in the very popular child tax credit — but not for millions of lower-income Americans, of course. $350 BILLION for Trump's outlandish border and anti-immigrant crusade, including a metric shit ton of money to build more concentration camps for people born in the wrong geographic coordinates. An incomprehensible funding increase for ICE — essentially making the agency the 16th largest military IN THE WORLD — to wage more war on our own low-income workers and families. Medicaid cuts ripping away healthcare from at least 12 MILLION Americans. Critical food assistance cuts targeting 3 MILLION Americans. The elimination of school lunches for 18 MILLION kids. Countless rural hospitals shuttered. Drastic rollbacks of previously passed tax breaks for planet-saving renewable energy projects. $25 billion for the development of a Golden Dome missile defense system, just in case Canada or Mexico start firing rockets at American cities. $40 million for Trump's ridiculous garden of national heroes (can't wait to see who's honored with fake gold busts there). A new children’s savings program, called Trump Accounts (nope, definitely not a cult). And the truly awful list goes on and on and on — adding $3,300,000,000,000 to the national deficit. Happy birthday, America. It's been a pretty good run.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump goes off the rails with unhinged speech after disastrous budget passes

The wannabe dictator flew to Iowa yesterday for a signature MAGA pep rally and delivered a scorched-earth, fantasy-laden, grievance-filled screed as unhinged as the big bill of bullshit Congress just passed to please their Dear Leader. Roll the tape.

Take a stand against Ticketmaster's monopoly

Fan Fairness Coalition: We’ve all been there. Your favorite artist announces a tour, you rush to buy tickets...only to be hit with a technical glitches and surprise fees. It’s not just annoying—it’s exploitation. Ticketmaster’s monopoly is rigging the system against fans. Tell the FTC it’s time to break them up and make live events better for everyone.

GOP congressman publishes, then deletes post celebrating "18 million kids" losing school meals
There are admittedly a LOT of candidates for Biggest Dickhead in DC, but Wisconsin Republican Derrick Van Orden just might take the crown. Rep. Van Orden, you may recall, was slapped with an ethics complaint in early 2024 for drunkely berating teenage pages in the US Capitol. A former Navy Seal who literally co-wrote a book about the "lost art of manhood," he was also busted crying wolf about being assaulted by an anti-war protester. Yesterday, a social media user shared their feelings on the catastrophic passage of Trump's big bill of bullshit, tweeting: "17 million people just lost health care. 18 million kids just lost school meals. 3 million Americans just lost food assistance." The far-right foghorn from Wisconsin responded: "YES!" — then later deleted the tweet claiming it was "an error." Yeah, we're gonna stick with your first instincts on this one, Derrick. If the jackboot fits...

Hegseth halted weapons for Ukraine despite military analysis that the aid wouldn't jeopardize US readiness
The Defense Department held up a shipment of US weapons for Ukraine this week over what officials said were concerns about its low stockpiles. But an analysis by senior military officers found that the aid package would not jeopardize the American military’s own ammunition supplies, according to three US officials. The move to halt the weapons shipment blindsided the State Department, members of Congress, officials in Kyiv, and European allies, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the matter. Critics of the decision included Republicans and Democrats who support aiding Ukraine’s fight against Russia. A leading House Democrat, Adam Smith of Washington, said it was disingenuous of the Pentagon to use military readiness to justify halting aid when the real reason appears to be simply to pursue an agenda of cutting off American aid to Ukraine.

Putin humiliates Trump with unprecedented attack right after their phone call
Vladimir Putin ordered Russia’s heaviest bombardment yet of Ukraine only hours after leaving President Donald Trump "disappointed" by a phone call over the prospect of peace negotiations. "I didn't make any progress with him at all," Trump admitted to reporters on Thursday, before a barrage of missiles and drones that left much of the Ukrainian capital in flames. The attack on Kyiv was the largest aerial bombardment since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The seven-hour onslaught lasted from Thursday into Friday and injured 23 people. Buildings were wrecked and rail infrastructure was affected, too. Some 550 drones and missiles were launched across the country, in what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called a "harsh, sleepless night." 24 hours, y'all.

US contractors tell the AP their colleagues are shooting at Palestinians seeking food in Gaza
American contractors guarding aid distribution sites in Gaza are using live ammunition and stun grenades as hungry Palestinians scramble for food, according to accounts and videos obtained by The Associated Press. Two US contractors, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because they were revealing their employers’ internal operations, said they were coming forward because they were disturbed by what they considered dangerous and irresponsible practices. They said the security staff hired were often unqualified, unvetted, heavily armed and seemed to have an open license to do whatever they wished. They said their colleagues regularly lobbed stun grenades and pepper spray in the direction of the Palestinians. One contractor said bullets were fired in all directions — in the air, into the ground, and at times toward the Palestinians, recalling at least one instance where he thought someone had been hit.
