Good Evening,

I’m writing to share that Katherine Jeanes has stepped down from their role as the Young Democrats of America’s representative to the Democratic National Committee, effective June 30, 2025.

Katherine made this decision to pursue a new opportunity to continue their advocacy for young people within the DNC by running for an at-large appointment via the Youth Council. We are grateful for their service and the example they set for future youth leaders.

To ensure that YDA retains its full voting rights in the upcoming DNC Council and Caucus elections, which commence next week, I have appointed YDA General Counsel, Mohammed Tazbir Alam, to serve for the remaining 19 days of the term. This appointment is made under the authority granted to me by the YDA Charter (Article XI, Section 7) and in recognition of the critical July 1 deadline for DNC members to be seated and participate in these elections, as without swift action, YDA risked losing its voice in this pivotal election.

Tazbir provided the following statement on July 1:

“As of last night, I was appointed to serve the remaining few weeks of a term as an officer of the Young Democrats of America to the DNC. Aside from the incredibly short amount of time I will serve in this role, it is an honor for me to once again represent the voices of young Democrats across the country.

I’ve had the privilege of serving this great organization in various roles—from Vice President, to Treasurer, to General Counsel—and as I head to my last convention this month as a Young Democrat, I get to serve as a YDA representative to the DNC.

Another amazing fact: in addition to being the newest DNC Member from the great state of New York, I am also the only Muslim member and the youngest member. This honor is especially meaningful to me after over a decade of advocacy and organizing to bring young people to the table.

I look forward to casting my vote in the upcoming DNC regional and caucus elections for some of my close friends, alongside Quentin Wathum-Ocama and Steph Campanha Wheaton. Hopefully one day I’ll return to serve a full term in a different capacity.

To the future, my friends
!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

In solidarity,
Quentin Wathum-Ocama
