King County and City of Seattle to increase Metro’s safety and security presence
King County Executive Shannon Braddock’s proposed 2025 supplemental budget includes $26.1 million in safety and security investments for King County Metro. In partnership, the City of Seattle has committed more than $5 million in voter-approved funding to support Metro’s 2025 safety and security efforts.
To support safe, vibrant, and healthy communities where everyone can thrive, King County Executive Shannon Braddock’s proposed 2025 supplemental budget, with funding support from the City of Seattle, will strengthen both transit safety and security.
The proposed budget was sent to the King County Council on May 29. It includes $26.1 million in safety and security investments for King County Metro to fund more Transit Police and Transit Security Officers across its regional network. The budget also funds larger and stronger operator safety partitions for all Metro buses.
The City of Seattle is contributing $5 million in voter-approved funding to Metro’s transit safety and security efforts in 2025. These investments are from the Seattle Transportation Levy and the Seattle Transit Measure, $2 million of which was championed by City Councilmembers Rob Saka and Dan Strauss in the 2025 City budget process.

RapidRide I Line is coming to Auburn, Kent and Renton
King County Metro is preparing to build 17-miles of new RapidRide service in Kent, Renton, and Auburn. Construction will begin in Fall 2025. Once the RapidRide I Line is in service in 2027 it will provide connections to the Renton Transit Center, Kent Transit Center and Auburn Station. The I Line will also connect riders to the RapidRide F Line, Sound Transit buses; Sounder Train; and local bus service, making it easier for people to travel to and from regional destinations and access a network of local bus routes. Metro is building RapidRide I Line to meet a critical need for improved north-south transportation options in south King County.
Visit our new website to check out our interactive map and learn about the passenger stations, and other improvements this project will bring!

Construction may cause temporary changes or disruptions to your usual access or travel patterns along the RapidRide I Line route. The contractor will work in designated construction zones with potential temporary local impacts over the course of the project. To help us prepare for construction please take our survey by August 18. This will help Metro understand how residents, visitors, and business owners get around the project route.
