
United States: A US military veteran, once granted a pardon by President Donald Trump for his involvement in the January 6 Capitol breach, has now been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of organizing a violent plot targeting FBI agents.
Edward Kelley's Radical Plan Exposed
Edward Kelley, 36, was found guilty last November for attempting to execute a lethal scheme against federal officers who had investigated him for storming the Capitol in 2021. The riot aimed to block the certification of Joe Biden’s victory over President Trump in the 2020 election.
According to the Justice Department, Kelley was one of the first rioters to break into the Capitol, following the breach of law enforcement barricades. But the case took a darker turn when it was revealed that Kelley later devised a plot to bomb the FBI office in Knoxville, Tennessee, using car bombs and drone-delivered explosives. He also prepared a “kill list” targeting specific federal agents.
Presidential Pardon Didn't Protect Him This Time
Despite his earlier presidential pardon, a federal judge ruled that it did not cover the new charges, allowing the prosecution to proceed.
