Hi Friend,
It's hard to believe that it's been only two months since I stepped into my role as President and CEO.
Every day has brought new challenges and triumphs for our relentless staff in the field. Of the 192 countries and territories we work in, each one has different needs and health systems with varying levels of capacity. As we continue to adjust our global response to reach as many people as possible, what we need most is your reliable support, especially as our country offices face critical funding gaps -- gaps that can cost human lives.
Friend, in the coming weeks, you'll hear from my team about what's happening on the ground in vulnerable communities, from Syria to Bangladesh, what the biggest needs are and what you can do to help keep these families safe. I'm so grateful for your support during this uncertain time, and I hope that you feel proud of our lifesaving work together.
Here's what we've achieved together so far:
- Nearly 2 million masks and other protective gear shipped to the front lines
- Over 1.6 billion people reached with critical COVID-19 information
- Soap, water and hygiene supplies delivered to over 12 million people

We don't know what tomorrow will bring. We don't know how long we will live in our new normal. There are growing fears of a second wave of coronavirus cases, even as researchers race to develop new vaccines and treatments.
What we do know is that we must be prepared to respond to even the worst-case scenarios -- and that means having steady support to ensure we can be where we're needed, when we're needed. UNICEF has secured a pipeline of millions of masks, gloves and other vital gear from suppliers through July, but even then, there's more to be done.
History shows us that UNICEF and our partners have the tools and the experience to fight this crisis. We were there after the post-World War II refugee crisis - and have responded to countless natural disasters, armed conflicts, famines and disease outbreaks since.
And right now, with your support, we're doing it again -- working with governments, the private sector and the public to protect children and families. COVID-19 anywhere is a threat to people everywhere -- so UNICEF stands united, with one clear promise: we will get through this together, for every child.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Nyenhuis
President and CEO
