I ask. You answer.

Question: Do you support the legislation Congress passed to make permanent the Trump Tax Cuts and to make long-term investments to secure our border?

Celebrating the 4th of July

The Declaration of Independence was signed and released on the 4th of July, 1776, as an act against the British government for continuing to levy taxes on their colonial citizens.

This document is one of the most important founding documents for the United States of America, and I am proud to have led the charge gathering the entire Mississippi Congressional Delegation in reading and remembering our nation’s founding principles.

The Declaration of Independence is a unifying document for Americans reminding us that, “all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” The document declares, “That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States;” and has stood the test of time for nearly 250 years.

Read My Op-Ed in the Clarion Ledger

Since President Donald J. Trump entered office in January of 2025, our border security has increased, the flow of illegal drugs has dropped dramatically and illegal border crossings have plummeted to levels not seen in modern history.

The success of the Trump administration’s leadership at our borders cannot be underestimated. Now, Congress must do its job to enshrine into law the work of Trump.

While ensuring our frontline personnel have the proper facilities is critical, we must also make certain that the CBP is adequately staffed.

The Biden-Harris administration destroyed border patrol agents’ morale and increased attrition throughout CBP by failing to enforce the law. Now that Trump has returned them to their frontline border security mission, our committee has proposed funding to add thousands of new agents and CBP officers, bolster recruitment and training efforts and fund retention bonuses.

Supporting the Budget Reconciliation Package

Today, I voted in favor of advancing the budget reconciliation process. This vote allows House Republicans to continue working towards delivering historic savings, preventing the largest tax increase in our nation’s history, securing our border, and making America great again. This bill is a critical step to deliver much-needed resources to the border and support our border patrol agents; invest in technology to improve border enforcement; and complete the building of the border wall. I am working every day to enact President Trump’s America First agenda.

I am proud to see the work of Republicans in Congress and President Trump to secure the border be made permanent through budget reconciliation. The Biden-Harris border crisis has come to an end, though we will be working to undo the consequences for years. Illegal crossings at the Southwest border in March plummeted 95 percent from last year. However, the success at our borders won’t last if we don’t provide the necessary resources to help Customs and Border Protection (CBP) fulfill its mission. With the passage of the Reconciliation Bill, we will secure our borders and help President Trump deliver on his other promises to the American people.
