Today, Republicans made their priorities painfully clear: if you are not rich, you are expendable.
The so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” is nothing more than a Big Ugly Sham—a brutal piece of legislation that rips away health care, slashes food assistance, and fuels mass enforcement and surveillance, all while handing billions to the wealthiest people in the country.
They are dismantling Medicare, cutting SNAP benefits, and taking away health care and food assistance from seniors, children, and working families—only to give billions more to the wealthiest individuals in the country. This is cruelty masquerading as fiscal responsibility, and it will have devastating effects on lives across the nation.
We know what’s happening. Tax breaks for billionaires. Corporate giveaways. Endless subsidies for the ultra-wealthy, while everyday Americans are told to tighten their belts and “make do” without the basics.
Seventeen million people are at risk of losing access to health care. Over five million may lose vital food assistance. Families will be forced to make impossible choices between rent and groceries, filling prescriptions, and keeping their homes warm. Meanwhile, billionaires continue to amass wealth at unprecedented levels.
At the same time, ICE is now the most heavily funded law enforcement agency in the United States, receiving more money than the FBI, CIA, and ATF combined. That’s not about safety. That’s about control. That’s about building a system where immigrants are surveilled, detained, and deported while the rich get richer.
This is what Republican leadership looks like: bloated enforcement budgets, tax cuts for the wealthy, and starvation for everyone else.
Young Democrats are fighting back. We are organizing in every state to say: Enough. We demand a government that puts people before profit—a government that feeds the hungry, heals the sick, and protects the vulnerable, not one that rewards cruelty and hoards wealth at the top.
We will rise. We will resist. And we will remember who did this.
