Dear Neighbor,

Today, House Republicans voted to pass H.R. 1, the Republican tax bill, which slashes funding for programs like Medi-Cal and SNAP that Californians rely on.

This tax bill will:

  • Cut more than $1 trillion from Medi-Cal, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act, which will leave 17 million hardworking Americans uninsured.
  • Prevent Medi-Cal coverage from being used to receive care from Planned Parenthood, leaving more than 1.1 million women without access to not only reproductive care, but also important services like cancer screenings and maternal care.
  • Increase health care costs for California families by requiring Medi-Cal recipients to pay up to 5% of their income in cost-shares and copayments.
  • Raise healthcare premiums by $2,920 on average for individuals covered by the Affordable Care Act in California’s 47th District
  • Pave the way for local hospital and health clinic closures—by kicking millions of people off their health care, hospitals that serve Medicaid populations won’t have the financial resources to stay open.

In short, this bill would make healthcare unaffordable for hardworking Californians while making our communities sicker by denying folks the healthcare they need, all in the name of financing tax cuts for the rich.

Representative Min was proud to vote against this bill. He will continue to fight for lower costs for Orange County families and to ensure Californians have access to the healthcare they need.
