John,
Congressional Republicans just passed one of the deadliest and most morally bankrupt bills in modern history. The so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” will rip away healthcare, gut nutrition assistance, and leave millions of Americans worse off, all to finance more tax breaks for the rich.
And the consequences won’t just be economic. They’ll be lethal.
At least 51,000 Americans will die every year as a result of this law.[1] That is the human cost of what just happened. Trump and Republicans made a legislative decision to value billionaires’ bottom lines more than people’s lives. Every Representative and Senator who voted for this bill made that trade. We are making sure the American people know it and remember it.
While millions of low-income families, children, seniors, and people with disabilities lose access to the healthcare and nutrition they need to survive, the wealthiest Americans will gain the most. The top 0.1%, those earning over $4.3 million a year, will receive an average tax break of $389,000, while the bottom 40% of households will see their incomes fall.[2][3] It is a direct transfer of wealth from working people to the plutocrats.
We’re escalating our nationwide campaign to hold every Member of Congress who voted for this deadly bill accountable. Chip in now to power the grassroots organizing we need to turn public outrage into action and make sure these lawmakers face consequences at home.
This bill is unpopular and indefensible, which is why only 27% of registered voters support it.[4] Across red and blue districts, voters overwhelmingly support Medicaid, oppose cuts to essential benefits, and reject tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. But GOP lawmakers ignored their constituents, ignored the data, and voted yes.
With Donald Trump’s seal of approval, low-income parents will lose nutrition assistance for their children. Seniors will be forced out of nursing homes or denied basic care. People living with cancer, diabetes, and other chronic conditions will be pushed to ration medication, or go without entirely, because their coverage was stripped away. These will not be isolated tragedies. They are the foreseeable, preventable outcomes of a political decision.
Congressional Republicans didn’t make a tough choice. They made a corrupt one. Now they’ll celebrate a win this 4th of July weekend while millions of people are left to suffer the consequences.
They may have won this round, but the larger fight for an economy that puts working people first is far from over.
