Dear John,
Republicans in Congress just passed President Trump’s One Big, Ugly Bill, sending it to his desk for his signature. Make no mistake: this legislation will have devastating impacts on the Inland Empire and the entire country. This bill will raise costs, throw 17 million Americans off their health insurance and make it harder for people who rely on food assistance programs when grocery prices are already too high.
This bill will gut Medicaid and take away health insurance from thousands of our friends and neighbors here in the Inland Empire, put hospitals and nursing homes at risk of closure and cause the cost of health care to go up. Nonpartisan studies of this bill say that means 17 million people across the country will lose their health insurance and more than 2.3 million Californians will lose Medi-Cal coverage. And Republicans are doing this to help pay for more tax breaks for billionaires and corporations making record profits.
On top of these cuts to health care, this One Big, Ugly Bill cuts food assistance programs like SNAP. This bill takes food off the tables of children, seniors, veterans and people with disabilities, while billionaires and wealthy corporations only get richer and the rest of us foot the $3.3 trillion bill.
I’ll never stop working to make life better and more affordable for families here in the Inland Empire. We need to pass legislation that brings down the cost of groceries, housing, rent, child care and utilities and puts more money back in people’s pockets. Your families and your future will always be my top priority.
Thanks,
Pete Aguilar
Member of Congress
