John,
I wish I had better news to share, but House Republicans just took the final vote that solidified passage of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill through Congress, resulting in the largest transfer of wealth from working families to the wealthy of any US law in history.
This vote prioritizes billionaires and powerful corporate interests over working people and the environment.
Congress voted to pass this cruel bill that threatens medicaid coverage for 17 million and SNAP benefits for at least five million Americans, including nearly one million children.

Congress is meant to represent our interests, but some members need a wake-up call to remember who they work for. This bill hurts regular people, and low-income households will bear the brunt of its harm, with higher utility bills, worsening hunger, and lost healthcare.
Despite this Ugly Bill’s passage, the silver lining is that it could have been much worse. Thanks to immense public pressure and tens of thousands of calls and messages from members like you, we were able to stop some really bad proposals from being included.
Our efforts mattered, and together, we ensured the final bill had:
No cuts to school lunch programs that feed millions of children across the country
No REINS Act, which attacks agencies’ ability to put regulations in place that keep our food and water safe
No tax increases on municipal bonds, critical to funding local clean water infrastructure
No ability for the Trump administration to attack the nonprofit status of organizations that disagree with him
No ability for carbon pipeline companies to preempt state laws to force their projects through
No sell-off and privatization of public lands out West
Still, no amount of tinkering or amendments was going to fix this bill. The majority of Congress put the interests of corporations and the ultra-wealthy ahead of the communities they represent.
