Dear John,
Thank you for taking action.
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1—a budget reconciliation package that prioritizes corporations and the wealthy over children and families. Despite being labeled “big” and “beautiful,” this bill delivers massive tax breaks to the rich, while slashing critical programs that children rely on every day like Medicaid, CHIP, SNAP, and the Child Tax Credit.
Children’s Defense Fund remains deeply disappointed by this vote. But we are not discouraged—because of you.
Your voice helped expose the harms hidden in this bill. Your advocacy helps us stand firm in our belief that every child deserves dignity, hope, and joy, not hunger, exclusion, or poverty determined by political choice.
A budget is more than numbers. It is a moral document that reveals who we choose to protect and who we leave behind.
Thanks to you, Congress heard from those who refuse to let children be forgotten.
Our work continues. Together, we will keep pushing for a nation where every child can thrive. Stay tuned for the next opportunity to act—and know that your commitment is already making a difference.
With gratitude,
Lauren Reliford, MSW
Director of Public Policy
