The Big Ugly Bill has just passed, and I’ve got to level with you: this is a disastrous piece of legislation that will harm every single American.
Here are just a few impacts of this bill:
Healthcare: Medicaid has been slashed, which won’t just hurt low-income Virginians – it raises premiums for everyone, as hospitals and health systems have to absorb the fallout.
Air quality: The clean air provisions that keep our communities healthy have been rolled back. And in Northern Virginia, air quality is already under strain.
Clean energy jobs: The bill sabotages clean energy tax credits, which have created good-paying jobs here in the Commonwealth. It’s a massive step backward for our economic and climate progress.
Tariffs: Provisions in the bill give Trump unilateral power to impose unpredictable tariffs, raising costs for small businesses and families at the grocery store.
National debt: Over $3 trillion has been added to our national debt, despite cuts for healthcare and SNAP food benefits.
And here’s one that’s especially personal for Virginia: they’re even taking the space shuttle out of the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum so they can ship it to Texas – wasting tens of millions of taxpayer dollars in the process.
If you would believe it, the final version of the bill was a pared-down one. The initial one was much, much worse – but my colleagues and I did everything in our power to remove the worst provisions. Even so, this bill takes aim at our federal workforce, contractors, clean energy jobs, and small businesses. And it puts every single one of us at risk with higher costs, dirtier air, and less access to affordable healthcare.
What’s on the docket for me now is fighting back with my colleagues from every angle and protecting Americans from feeling the worst impacts. But with my Republican opponent announcing his run for this seat last month, I’m going to need your support to ensure that I can keep standing up to special interests in Congress.Your contribution today helps me do just that:
