John,
I just finished my second all-nighter trying to stop Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.
Let me be absolutely clear: This bill is a betrayal of the American people. Plain and simple. I am not giving up on protecting the millions of Americans who will be impacted by cuts to healthcare, SNAP benefits, and the rising costs as a result.
Last night’s tally was 219-213. Just ONE Republican voted no on the bill. A single one. And the tight margins on this vote remain frustratingly evident. This is why flipping the House matters. A democratic majority will fight to lower costs, protect healthcare and SNAP benefits, and advocate for working families.
House Democrats may not ultimately be able to stop this bill, but we’ve been on the House floor lead by Hakeem Jeffries for hours hoping to stop the passage—every hour we delay is another hour that Americans have healthcare, kids have food security and Americans are not saddled with trillions in debt.
When this bill passes, it will be a Republican majority in Congress that worked to sell out the working and middle class to reward billionaires with tax cuts.
If we want to have a fighting chance, a Democratic majority is our path. MI-03 has been one of the most competitive districts in the country, cycle after cycle. Winning and then holding this seat means we turned a “yes” vote into a “no” vote.
That’s why, as I work to push back against disastrous Republican legislation, I’m continuing my work on the ground to flip even more seats like mine. If you’re with me, I hope you’ll chip in whatever you can below:
