Right now, Republicans are trying to rip Medicaid away from millions through their so-called “Big Ugly Bill.” For people like me, this isn’t just cruel, it’s dangerous.
In 2020, I was diagnosed with kidney disease. While most people would immediately ask, “What’s the treatment plan?” my first thought was, “How much is survival going to cost me?” That’s the reality too many of us face in a healthcare system that puts profits over people.
Thanks to Medicaid, my kidney disease has been in remission since January. It gave me a future I wasn’t sure I’d have. That’s why it’s been so painful and enraging to watch elected officials question whether Medicaid, and by extension, my life, is worth protecting. When they come for Medicaid, they’re not just attacking a program; they’re attacking the people whose lives depend on it.
Now, Republicans are trying to take that same lifeline away from millions of others. Their bill would gut access to life-saving care, especially for disabled people, low-income families, and chronically ill individuals.
Our lives are on the line. But the fight isn’t over.
We have a chance to stop this. Call your representatives. Tell them to vote NO on this inhumane and catastrophic bill. We’re not disposable, and we’re not backing down. Find how to contact your representative here: https://www.aapd.com/medicaid
