Folks, any moment now House Republicans are expected to pass Donald Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill – and tomorrow Trump will likely sign it into law.
First off, if you’re feeling angry, disappointed, or scared – you are not alone. It’s a terrible and cruel piece of legislation. Even my Republican colleagues know it and voted for it anyway. I spent weeks trying to convince them to vote with their conscience and not cave to Donald Trump.
It's disappointing to say the least, but we can’t allow ourselves to be demoralized into inaction at this moment. We have to stay engaged in this fight. Because come the midterm elections, voters will have an opportunity to hold Donald Trump and Republicans accountable for:
- Ripping millions of Americans off their health insurance
- Gutting food assistance
- Raising energy prices while cutting clean energy jobs
- Failing our children and grandchildren by exploding the national debt
And for what? To give even larger tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans.
One man and one party are responsible for this mess: Donald Trump and the Republicans. And the fight to hand them a devastating defeat in the midterms starts now.
