Dear Green American,
Thanks to your support, we have amazing news!
Due to our collective efforts, along with those of local activists in California, we achieved a victory ([link removed]) that will protect the climate, protect communities from pollution, and protect thousands of acres of forests.
On June 25, Golden State Natural Resources (GSNR) announced that they were canceling plans for two processing plants that would have turned forests in Northern California into wood pellets to be burned mostly overseas for power generation.
This scheme would have not only have decimated up to 1.3 million acres of forests, it would have created immense air and noise pollution for local communities. And burning forests for fuel would create more climate emissions than burning coal!
Your support made this victory possible.
This victory for forests, climate, and communities only came about because of sustained community opposition, including 10,000 messages from Green Americans like yourself voicing opposition. Over the past year, Green America and our allies countered GSNR’s destructive plans with rallies, press coverage, and a major social media campaign.
I was there in the room to hear GSNR grudgingly admit strong public opposition as a driver for making this decision. I joined the community activists and environmentalists we campaigned with for months in celebrating the good news! It’s an amazing validation of people like you speaking up for communities and the environment.
GSNR is still looking for projects that could harm forests. So, Green America and our colleagues will need to stay vigilant. So we’re not out of the woods yet but for now the woods are more protected.
It is good to get good news. And this is definitely a victory for people and the planet we all care about.
Thanks for all you do and all your support.
