Today, the EU Energy Sustainable
Energy Week kicks off. Activities will take place online and will
focus on clean energy for green
recovery and growth after the pandemic. Meanwhile, the European Parliament’s
committees will discuss and vote on several issues this week,
including proposals to advance gender equality, EU-Africa relations
and the EU’s budget and recovery plans.
Today, European Council President
Charles Michel and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will take
part in an online summit with the leaders of China. On Wednesday, the
European Commission will present its draft budget for
2021.
On Sunday, Polish citizens head to
the polls to vote in the Polish presidential elections that were
postponed in May.

European Parliament
This week, Parliament’s budget
committee (BUDG) will discuss the EU’s recovery plan, including the
next long-term budget and the reform of the system of own resources.
MEPs will also hear from Commissioner Hahn on the draft budget for
2021. On Monday, the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), together
with the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM), will
vote on a report on gender equality in the EU’s foreign and security
policy. The FEMM Committee will also vote on a report assessing the
gender perspective in the Covid-19 crisis and post-crisis period.
European Commission
In the weekly college meeting,
President von der Leyen will hold a structural debate on racism.
Together with Commissioner Hahn, she will also present the draft
budget for 2021. Commissioners will also discuss a new ‘EU Strategy
for Victims’ Rights’ as well as a report on the application of the
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Moreover, Commissioner
Gabriel will take part in a videoconference of EU education
ministers.

European Council
Today’s online summit will bring
together leaders from the EU and from China, to discuss joint efforts
in tackling the pandemic and the recovery. They will also review the
EU-China relation in terms of economy and trade, connectivity,
sustainable development and climate change, and security and defence.
On Tuesday, EU environment and climate ministers will discuss how
sustainable policies can contribute to the recovery from the COVID-19
crisis, while the German Presidency will present its programme. That
same day, education ministers will meet to assess the implications of
COVID-19 on education and training.
