Dear Friend,
Fathers who set an example for their kids to grow by and who sacrifice so they can give their children a better life are heroes.
Although my dad grew up in the Depression era and only had a 5th grade education, he did well in life. For him and many like him, feeding and sheltering a family was heroic work. And with my mother's help, he did the best that he could. Dad worked at a factory and became a union steward and helped his fellow workers get a fair wage. In fact, when I was in grade school, he would take me to the picket lines, where the workers were protesting for better treatment and pay.
My dad's "help the underdog" philosophy was instrumental in me starting The Rutherford Institute and my dedication in helping the average citizen get a fair hearing in the courtroom. Over the past 38 years, we've defended thousands of people free of charge.
Certain studies indicate that parents may have little impact on their children. While that may be true, in certain instances, my father's shadow lays before me a clear path.
It's a path I will follow until the day I die, and there are many people, myself included, who are better for it.
For freedom,
John W. Whitehead
President
