Hey there,

I feel filled with gratitude right now.

First, I know our recent undercover investigation into caged egg facilities was tough to witness. There were tears from many folks on our team, many of whom view footage like this every day. The suffering that farmed animals experience around the world is a brutal thing to confront. And in the face of this suffering, thousands of people like you came together in the most beautiful demonstration of human compassion.

Our team has been celebrating one victory after the next, and I wanted to reflect some of that progress back to you—so you know just how much of an impact you’re having on our broken food system.

-Generous donors successfully rallied to unlock $120,000 in matching challenge funds. With your help, we didn’t leave a single dollar on the table—and even after the matching funds were exhausted, this community helped us raise even more. These funds will enable us to plan more powerful strategic campaigns—and escalate the pressure when we know a company is close to making a life-changing commitment for animals.- A caged egg facility in Bulgaria will likely be permanently shut down because of our undercover investigation.

- The Cheesecake Factory reported that it’s spared hens from extreme confinement, six years ahead of its deadline.

- In the United States, the percentage of hens living outside cages reached a new high point, with 45.7% of hens spared from extreme confinement (up from 38.7% at the end of last year). This means 10 million more hens are able to walk on solid ground, lay their eggs in a nest, and stretch their wings. The industry is changing because of people like you.

I remember when The Humane League was a group of just three advocates. Now we’re a global movement connecting thousands of people and hundreds of organizations working to end the suffering of farmed animals.

And I know I’ve only been here a few months, but I feel like I’ve found my people. They’re people like you—smart, compassionate, dedicated, hopeful. When people like that put their heads together, anything is possible. You keep proving that, over and over.

For the animals,

Dan Shannon
